CHRISTMAS MEMORIES

My sisters have been talking about our Christmas from our childhood alot. Our memories. Mom and Dad have both passed now and it really isn't the same. My Mom loved Christmas. If there is a decoration that she didn't have-either she would buy it or one of us would get it for her. Mom crocheted. She had a whole Christmas tree that was decorated with ornaments that she made. I have several myself including and angel about 8'' tall. When we were little we didn't have a lot of material things. Forget color tv's, radios or hand held games. My first pair of Levi's I bought myself! But our childhood was so much better than today's kids. We played in the snow in a metal dishpan. Man you can slide down a hill in one of those things. Mom always made snowcreme when we got one of our random snowfalls. This was homemade not the mix you can buy now. We had to bring in fire wood every day. I could see my daughter doing that!
I can remember calling my Grandmother Waters on Christmas Eve to see if Santa had made it by her house yet. She would say hang on and come back saying "I stuck my head outside. Didn't see anything but I think I smelt reindeer shit." She was great. I try to teach my kid some of these things but I still have a spoiled rotten brat. But she is my brat! Remember making cookies? We still actually do that. Brittany seen on the news where some states were getting all that snow. She said that she can't wait to break out the dishpan!! I'll have the insurance card handy just in case.

ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

I've came home and started all over again. Why do women get to work and then go to our second job at home? Cook, wash clothes, get kids ready for school tommorrow .............. it never ends. I ask my daughter if she will take care of me as well as I have her when I get old. She probably already has a room reserved for me at the nursing home. Just 4 weeks until Christmas and I haven't even put up a tree yet. Well maybe I will get to this weekend. My sister Donna had a fun outing with her grandkids this past weekend. Most kids would not know what to do with a Christmas like we had when we were little. But they were the best. My daughter and I have a few traditions of our own. We always read The Night Before Christmas and the story of Christ birth out of the Bible on Christmas Eve. She always gets a new set of pajamas (I stole that one from Donna) and we always leave milk and cookies. Santa is getting older and a little heavy. Maybe we all need to find him a new snack to leave so he will be around a lot longer.

JUST ME

I live in a very small community in North Alabama. I mean SMALL. I love it here. I grew up in Moulton, AL. That is a small town also but not as small. Everyone knows everyone here and everything you do. I mean everthing! Good thing my life is very BORING! Not really just pretty well the same thing day in and day out. I am a single parent to a beautiful 11 year old daughter. Most everthing I do includes her. I work in the chicken growing industry. The business I am employed at furnishes parts and supplies for commercial chicken houses. Lawrence County is one of the fastest growing areas for this business. I grew up working in my parents chicken house. I have four sisters. Two of them have a blog on this site. I have been reading theirs and thought I would try my hand at this. Maybe this can be an outlet for some thoughts and frustrations of my own. Give me a little time and I will try to see if my stories can be as interesting as some I have been reading.
